On Saturday, February 3, 2018 the famous dancer Sergei Polunin and company inaugurated the new edition of ParmaDanza at the Teatro Regio.  Natalia Osipova and soloists from some of Russia’s most prestigious theaters joined Polunin onstage.  A highlight of the performance was the national debut of Polunin’s work, Sartori.

The idea comes from Project Polunin , an artistic project that aims to produce new choreographic creations thanks to the collaboration between dancers, choreographers, musicians and artists from different fields.

For Sergei Polunin, Satori represents his own path of reunion with love for dance and passion for art.  It is the culmination of a personal journey.  He brought together a group of artists with whom he created a program that consists of three parts, including two new productions.

Sergei’s solo

On the stage of the Teatro Regio the program opened with First Solo , performed by Sergei Polunin.  It was created by the award-winning choreographer Andrey Kaydanovskiy.  First Solo tells of a man’s search for freedom through that same dance that makes him a slave.  It is profoundly personal for Polunin.  Its focus is the dualism between an artist’s life of commitment and his desire for freedom of thought and movement.

A rare treat

The show continued with Skriabiniana, a rare treat.  It is among the very few choreographies left completely intact by the great choreographer Kasyan Goleizovsky.  Finally, the evening ended with Satori, choreographed by Polunin himself.  Sartori is directed by Gabriel Marcel del Vecchio and boasts an original soundtrack by the award-winning composer Lorenz Dangel.  The production features scenes from works by photographer David Lachapelle.  Angelina Atlagic designed the costumes.

The public delirious for a chance to see Polunin brought about an immediate sell out.  The excellence of these international artists did not disappoint.  With their dance, they involved and excited the audience of the Regio di Parma.

“My vision of the scene photographer is that of a silent and discreet presence that fits into the dynamics of the show, without interfering with them, but becoming an integral part of them. It is having its own artistic vision and being able to transmit it, knowing, however, to know and listen to the needs of those who create and put on show the show.”  – Alessia Santambrogio

A professional photographer, Alessia Santambrogio was born in Monza.  She was artistically and professionally trained at the Accademia Teatro alla Scala.  Alessia, graduating in 2011, immediately made an impact on the arts community.

She has photographed important productions and personalities of the national and international panorama of opera, ballet and theater.

Co-founder of the industry magazine Kairós Magazine , she actively collaborates as a photographer, author, copy editor and archivist. There are numerous publications in national newspapers such as Il Corriere della Sera , La Repubblica , Il Giorno and others.

Estas Tonne Meets Sergei Polunin

Estas Tonne Meets Sergei Polunin

Estas Tonne meets Sergei Polunin

This November, witness an inspired collaboration of music and dance like no other. World-renowned master guitarist Estas Tonne is performing in the US for the first time with a 24-city tour. The tour kicks off in Escondido, CA November 1, 2018.

Ballet superstar Sergei Polunin will share the stage for three magical nights as a special guest in three cities: at Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles on November 4, at Palace for Fine Arts in San Francisco on November 6, and at Crest Theatre in Sacramento on November 7.

This unique collaboration was inspired by the famous scene in the feature film White Nights (1985). Mikhail Baryshnikov passionately performed to the moving music of legendary Soviet singer Vladimir Vysotsky. Sergei himself considers Baryshnikov his mentor.

Who is Estas Tonne?

Since we are a ballet site, that is where our strength and knowledge lies.  Upon hearing of Sergei’s collaboration with Estas Tonne, I had to find out more about him.  According to his website…

“Estas Tonne is a charismatic being who is committed to the artistic expression and to the authentic unfolding of music. Authenticity and self-renewal makes him explore the individuality of sound and the possibilities of how the sounding source can create a space that arises creatively and that in the same time allows the listener to momentarily adapt it – for the purpose of wellbeing and for the purpose of a shift.

By traveling to countless countries and places Estas Tonne finds himself in several cultural references without identifying himself with a single nation or country, rather with the cultural richness of the world. His music is therefore a reflection of many approaches. A fusion of classical structure, technique of Flamenco, roots of Gypsy, characteristics of Latin and Electronic Soundscape – a variety of styles flowing into each other almost unnoticed and showing up as surprises in a harmonious structure of sound, reaching out differently in each performance, yet always in unique form and melody.

His music is getting shaped by emotional expression and a wide range of audible elements that not only stem from various music genres but from the access to emotions itself. They weave the sparkle of joy into the music, the tension of challenges, the velocity of excitement, the gentleness of openheartedness, the grace of divine connection and the balance of the “I” at ease.

Life in the immediate presence is therefore integrating itself technically and emotionally, acoustically and electronically, dynamically and most often silently. All these influences create a new soundtrack in each performance steadily raising the awareness for the transforming and powerful within the sound.

Two opposites are the fields from where the music is formed. It is the underlying structure of “I know“ and the additional uniqueness of improvisation with the starting point of “I don’t know“. This particular approach of creating music encompasses both, the foundation and freedom in the same time. Thus, the soundspace unfolds according to the respective situation and allows the composition, variation and musical theme to appear with variety instead of repetition in the melodic line.

The meaning of “meditative“ does not mean minimalistic or motionless in the musical happening, It rather means to create an access to the personal emotional biography, its focus and situative conditions. As different the listener’s state of mind can be, as dynamically different an Internal Flight can be experienced.

Estas Tonne’ performs at concerts, conferences, Street, Yoga, Art or other Festivals etc., yet he is involved in collaborations that range from different film projects, poetry, meditation to dance or circus art. His involvement in the film project “Time of The Sixth Sun“ shows him in the role of the traveling Troubadour who spreads a meaningful impact on society and the world while experiencing his inner transformation.”  – estastonne.com

Origen Festival Cultural 2017 at the Performance Art Theatre in Riom, Graubunden, Switzerland

On July 31, the Theater of the Origen Festival will be inaugurated on the Julier Pass … near St Moritz in Switzerland.

Federal Councilor Alain Berset has a speech on the National Day and the dancer Sergei Polunin – with “Take me to Church” who became a YouTube star – shows his latest solo with new choreography by Andrey Kaidanovsky on the 31st July … and on the 3,4,5 August.

In addition, fragments of the trilingual opera “Apocalypse” by Gion Antoni Derungs are shown.  They give a taste for the full performance, which is on the program in the first half of August.

The Juliet tower was built in two and a half months of construction and cost two million francs so far. To make it winterfest will devour another million, as the organizers announced on Wednesday. This money must be raised in the coming months.

According to Origen, the biblical story about the Tower of Babel was the inspiration for the project on the Julier. The Babylon myth explains the multilingualism of the world. At the Julier Pass, which separates and links large linguistic areas, the myth is reflected in the cultural reality of the Canton of Graubünden.
